Mini Therapy Horses and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department boasts the tiniest horses in law enforcement in the United States! The Mini Therapy Horses program is part of the LASD commitment to our community, working together to build a productive and healthy relationship with those we serve. The horses are an integral part of local reading programs and LASD community outreach events while upholding the Sheriff’s Department motto of “A Tradition of Service.” Partnering with Mini Therapy Horses gives the Sheriff’s Department the opportunity to reach and impact children at a young age. Upon removing a child from an abusive home, Mini Therapy Horses makes itself available to comfort them while in law enforcement custody while awaiting child protective services.

The minis are registered law enforcement therapy horses at the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department’s Civilian Volunteer Program. Mini Therapy Horses was honored to be part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department 2016 Rose Parade entry with Sheriff Jim McDonnell and the Mounted Enforcement Detail.

They also participate in literacy programs at the Los Angeles County Public Libraries, and Emergency Preparedness events. They helped to de-stress athletes at the 2016 Special Olympics World Games and even walked in the 2016 Rose Parade with partner, Steve Sullivan, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
